Blue is the color most associated with heaven and the most used color in the Tabernacle of the Temple. The Virgin Mary often wears blue in her apparitions, and it is the color of God’s divine grace. Here it also reminds us of the water of Lourdes.

 

Roses have been associated with Mary even before the devotion of the rosary, the prayer which represents the garlands of roses she wears in Heaven. They accompany her in several of her apparitions, most famously at La Salette and in the Miracle of the Roses of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Our Lady is often referred to as the Rose Without Thorns.

 

Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to Saint Bernadette in 1858, along with a spring of water associated with many miracles of healing. Lourdes was the apparition where Mary clarified her Immaculate Conception, and the grotto built at the site has become a major pilgrimage site.
