Czech has a rich tradition of Bohemian glass making centered in the region of Jablonec nad Nissou. It is known both for its high quality of workmanship and for its distinctive, often vivid use of color. 

 

Green evokes vegetation, spring, and renewal. It is the color of life and immortality, and is used in the Bible often. The many Hebrew words for green separate out the life cycle of plants, with different words for the green of new growth, summer growth, and the green of mature plants and trees. It is, of course, the color of vestments for Ordinary Time.

 

Saint Jude, one of the Twelve Apostles, is the patron saint of desperate cases and lost causes, invoked in prayer when all hope seems lost. He is generally associated with the color green, perhaps because he was a farmer before being called by Jesus.
